Elsie L. Strasser, 91, Twelve Mile, Indiana, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, June 20, 2026, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side at Miller's Merry Manor, Logansport, leaving her days of confusion and pain.

On October 10, 1934, Elsie Helms was born in Cass County on the family farm near Twelve Mile. She was the youngest daughter of Ross David and Ruth (Winegardner) Helms. She was raised as one of eleven children in a house full of love, being the last survivor of her siblings.

Elsie was a proud 1952 graduate of Twelve Mile High School. She was married on March 17, 1956, at the home of the late Rev. Gilbert Maus, near Twelve Mile, to G. Roger Strasser.

She was a member of Corinth Brethren Church, Twelve Mile, where she previously served as treasurer and WMS member. Elsie had been employed by Twelve Mile State Bank, Dr. William Applegate, and Twelve Mile Post Office. She was most happy taking care of her family, friends, and neighbors. She loved calling Cass County and Twelve Mile home.

Elsie felt privileged to have grown up on a farm owned by the Helms family for generations during a simpler time. Summer weekends were spent camping at the beloved Helms Pond with all the family.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Tim Cowell; three much loved grandsons, Seth, Zac and wife Katie, rural Logansport, and Tayt, Lucerne; one precious great-granddaughter, Collins Cowell; two sisters-in-law, Betty Helms, Twelve Mile and Ellen Helms Bland, Logansport; one brother-in-law, Tim (Jill) Strasser, Fulton; sisters-in-law, Martha Strasser, Evans, Georgia and Carmen Parker, Logansport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Elsie in death are her husband, Roger on January 8, 2019; grandson, Baby Toby Cowell; ten siblings: Lena (Lynn) Dillman, Ann (Duke) Morrett, Dorothy (Don) Crane, John Helms, Hollis (Gladys) Helms, Mary (Dean) Gallahan, Lois (Jim) Bowers, Infant Rose Marie Helms, Ed Helms, and Tom (Barb) Helms; three brothers-in-law: Dale Strasser, Jim Strasser, Mike Parker, and one sister-in-law, Dixie Parker.

Elsie's family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the care-givers at Miller's Merry Manor-Logansport, Twelve Mile First Responders, and dear neighbors who came to her rescue as needed.

Memorial contributions may be made to Twelve Mile First Responders, Twelve Mile Lions Club, or Corinth Brethren Church.
