Norman Lee Fisher

Norman Lee Fisher, 86, Peru, formerly of Denver, passed away at 9:03 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru.

Born March 15, 1934, in Denver, Indiana, he was the son of Floyd Emerson Fisher and Garnet Lucille Marburger Fisher.  On September 4, 1956, at the home of the late Rev. C.F. Golden, near Denver, Indiana, he was married to the former Kay Frances Fitzpatrick, and she survives.  

He became a member of the Denver Baptist Church in 1946, where he later served as a Trustee and Deacon.  He was a 1952 graduate of Jefferson Township High School and retired in 1996 as a heavy equipment operator for Deichman Excavating in Logansport.  He was a member the International Union of Operating Engineers, No. 103; a charter member of the Denver Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones Award; and a member of the Peru Masonic Lodge.  

He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1953-1957.  As a Staff Sargent, he was stationed in Japan, where he got to climb Mt. Fuji. In 2015, his daughter, Lisa accompanied him on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C., where he could visit the military monuments in our nation’s capitol.  

Norm had followed Notre Dame Women’s Basketball for over fifteen years, and was able to attend the NCAA Finals in 2001, and watch Ruth Riley, a local athlete, help lead her team to the national championship.  

Norm and Kay were loving grandparents to their four granddaughters, each of whom they got to spoil with an individual vacation trip, traveling to the Mall of America; Green Bay, Wisconsin; Niagra Falls and Canada; Myrtle Beach; and Pigeon Forge.  

Survivors include his wife, Kay F. Fisher, Peru; three children, Lisa K. Hagan, Mexico; Steven L. Fisher, Denver; and Kathy K. (Eric) Alwine, Rossville; four granddaughters, Heather (Cory) Hall, Mexico; Emily (Brian) Gardner, Wabash; Sarah Alwine (Brock Young), Rossville; Erica (Darren) Beyers, Noblesville; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Hannah and Carson Hall; Lexie Alwine; Elijah Peters; Tristan and Belle Gardner; Lillian and Gabriella Black; Claire Young; Charlee, Zoey, Chloe, and Darren Beyers; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Geraldine Patterson and Miriam Butler; and one son-in-law, Tom Hagan.  

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at the Denver Baptist Church, with Pastor Eric Alwine, Chaplain Jason See, and Pastor Tim Earle officiating. Due to restrictions, there will be a limited number of people allowed in the church sanctuary for the service.  The service will be live-streamed by clicking on the link on Norm’s obituary page at www.mcclainfh.com.  For those not able to attend the visitation or service, please visit the obituary page to send a message of condolence to the family.   Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Denver, Indiana, with Military Graveside Rites provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.  

Visitation will be from 3-7:00 p.m. on Friday, in the church fellowship hall.  Masks are required and the crowd will be limited to fifty people at a time.
