Janet Moss Obituary

Janet (Jan) Sue Moss, 77, of Twelve Mile, Indiana passed away peacefully in her home on January 24th, 2024.

Jan was born on May 25,1946 in Winamac to Yale Marvin and Thale Mae (Kistler) Feltis, the youngest of their three children. She shared close relationships with her brother and sister, Larry Feltis and Beverly (Feltis) Keith Nutter. Upon her mother’s untimely passing in 1950, Jan’s family grew to include beloved half siblings Kay (Feltis) Clay, Linn (Feltis) Richardson, Kevin Feltis, Kim Feltis, and Troy Feltis.
On June 14,1964, at Meta Baptist Church, she married Carl Richard “Dick” Moss, Logansport. They shared 59 happy years of marriage together and raised three children, Brian (Yvonne) Moss, Darren “Dru” (Maria) Moss, and Rachelle “Shelly” (David) Sarver. She is survived also by her beloved grandchildren Austin Moss, Braden Moss, Addison Lawson (Sarver), Aiden Sarver, and Elorie Manfroy-Moss, as well as two great grandchildren, Finley Moss and Ellis Moss; sisters- in- law, Betty (Richard) Kline, Carol Moss; and a special “adopted “ son Junior Stroud. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Beverly Nutter, and brothers- in-Law Marshall Keith, Robert Nutter, and Gene Moss.
Jan was very devoted to her family and cared deeply for all the people in her life, often opening her home to anyone who ever needed motherly, and grand motherly care . Especially notable was the special matriarchal role she played in the lives of her deeply loved nieces and nephews: Mike, Jeff, Chris, Scott, Brad, and  Andy. Also bereaved are an additional 12 nieces and nephews.
She was also well-known for her strength of character and sense of humor, among many other wonderful qualities. She graduated from North Miami High School in 1964 and married her husband Dick shortly after graduation. She spent a short tenure as a beautician, utilizing her creative and discerning talents to run a small shop out of her home before pivoting to assist her husband in his own entrepreneurial pursuits with farming and helping with the operation of Moss Fertilizer family business. She later helped her husband and son start B&D Ag Service. She assisted in company operations for many years before retiring to spend even more time with her family. When not attending her grandchildren’s many school programs and extracurricular activities, she enjoyed such hobbies as rug hooking, reading, taking care of her flowers, and home decorating.

She had a real eye for arrangements, antiques, and primitive home fixings, often lending her particular artistic skills to community programs. Some of her most notable activities included teaching Sunday school, leading 4-H club, serving on the Miami County 4-H Board, helping orchestrate the Twelve Living Christmas Pageant Pageant, presiding over the North Miami Music Booster club,  directing  the Miami County Fair Queen Pageant and volunteering at Caston Elementary School.

Janet inspired her family and community with strength of will and courage in battling 3 separate bouts of cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of humility and determination for her loved ones. While bereaved, her family finds great comfort in knowing she is now in eternal peace with her Father in Heaven.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at McClains Funeral Home, Denver.   Then, following the memorial service, a family-style celebration of life will follow at Twelve Mile Community building from 12-? Burial will be at a later date in Metea Cemetery.
