David E. Murphy

David E. Murphy, 67, Peru, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, in the comfort of his home.  

Born June 26, 1953, in Tipton, Indiana, he was the son of Gene and Judy A. (Imbler) Murphy.  On May 16, 1987, he was married to Cindy L. Murphy in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church, Peru, Indiana.

David graduated from Eastern High School in 1971 and went on to General Motors Institute, where he graduated in 1976.  He spent many years as an engineer before changing careers, returning to school to become a registered nurse. Leading up to his retirement in 2019, he spent a number of years using his nursing skills to help others with organ donation, hospice care, and home health care. He also enjoyed cooking and tending to his herb garden.

He is survived by his son, Doug (Angela) Murphy, Jefferson, Maryland; daughter Deanna (Jamie) Chowning, Fishers; and two stepdaughters, Laura (Jeremy) Flaherty, Danville; and Leslie (John) Flynn, West Lafayette; mother, Judy A. Murphy, Greentown; sister, Susan A. Simmons, Cincinnati, Ohio; and brother, Daniel C. (Delina) Murphy, Greentown; grandchildren, Brayton and Blake Myers; Mason and Calen Chowning; Fionn and Eamon Flaherty; Aubrey and Brayden Flynn; and many loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy L. Murphy in 2019; and father, Gene Murphy.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service in memory of David will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020, at Sycamore Friends Church, Greentown, Indiana, with Pastor Charles Cole officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to one of David’s favorite charities: the Indiana Donor Network Foundation, Scratching Post Cat Rescue, or Harvesting Capabilities.
