Daniel Day Obituary

Daniel Dean Day, 58, Mexico, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, at Hickory Creek of Peru.

Born March 5, 1964, in Peru, Indiana, he was the son of Myron “Bud” Dean and Barbara Lee (Crume) Day. On August 8, 2008, he was married to the former Donna Rae Barker.

Dan graduated from North Miami High School in 1982 and received his degree in Photojournalism from Ball State University in 1986. He was a member of Zion Chapel Church in Peru and was a model train enthusiast and member of the CIY train club in Kokomo. Before opening his own business, Day’s Sweets in Mexico and Peru, he worked in construction and installed garage doors for both Hurst’s and Don’s. He was an avid sports fan, coaching softball for many years and was currently a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Cubs. He loved flying stunt kites and spending time with his family, especially his kids and grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Day, Mexico; children, Katie L. (Brandon) Hutchison, Lapel; Sara M. Day (Ryan Hepfer), Lapel; and Jamie A. (Collin) Loughman, Lapel; Mandy M. Kriegel (Ricky Brown), Bluffton; Jamey E. (Kyle) Clark, Evansville; and Nathan F.C. Ralston (Jacqueline Smith), Allentown, PA; twelve grandchildren; mother, Barbara Day, Chili; brother, Donald L. (Jami) Day, Peru; grandmother, Rosie R. Day, Rochester; brother-in-law, Eric (Deborah) Saddlemire, Florida; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Ann Saddlemire; and his beloved dog, Daisy.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, at Zion Chapel Church, 915 S. Broadway, Peru, with Pastor Rod Correll officiating. A private family burial will be held on Tuesday at Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico.

Visitation will be from 3-7:00 p.m. on Monday at the church, prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with final expenses or to the American Diabetes Association.
