Barbara Joann (Arthur) Zartman

Barbara Joann (Arthur) Zartman, 86, Twelve Mile, passed away at 8:25 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at her residence. 

Born December 26, 1935, in Peru, Indiana, she was the daughter of Elwood William and Bernice J. (Walker) Arthur.  On February 25, 1956, in Akron, Indiana, she was married to David Bender Zartman, and he preceded her in death on February 25, 2014.

Barbara was a graduation of Akron High School, Akron, Indiana, and had attended Anderson College.  She was a longtime member of the Twelve Mile United Methodist Church and was currently attending Skinner Chapel.  She was a member of the Willing Workers Extension Homemakers Club for over sixty years and had served for many years on the Twelve Mile Community Building Board.  With her husband Dave, Barb owned and operated Zartman’s Cafe in Twelve Mile. She was an excellent cook and baker and had also worked at several restaurants, including McClures and Farley’s Cafe in addition to having worked at Gearhart Feed Mill and a few other local businesses, She enjoyed taking art classes with Elaine Hufford and babysitting, which she had done since she was twelve years old.  Barb also worked as a self-employed wallpaper hanger and interior painter.  She loved to cook and entertain and was a self-proclaimed “Jack of all trades—master of none!”

Survivors include her children, Twila (Kevin) Childress, Sharpsville; and Robin Spencer, Twelve Mile, Indiana; grandchildren, Adam Spencer, Logansport; Melisa (Tony) Holmes, Sharpsville; great-grandchildren, Anthony and Rianna Torres, Logansport; Skyleigh and Xavier Holmes, Sharpsville; two great-great grandchildren, Savini and A’Zier Torres; aunt, Dolly Walker, Peru; grandson-in-law, Henry Torres, Logansport; sister-in-law, Wanda “Peg” Arthur, Akron; her precious cat, Booty; and cousins by the dozens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David Mark Zartman; granddaughter, Shannon Torres; brothers, Jack W. and Harvey L. Arthur; and a sister, Mary Frances Wood.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, with Pastor David Noel officiating.  Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, Indiana.  

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday, at the funeral home.
