Maurice Dean Sixbey, M.D., 96, of Chili, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 25, 2026, at his Bradenton, Florida, home.
Born March 23, 1930, near Leiters Ford, Indiana, he was the son of Mark E. and Carrie Arletta (Wales) Sixbey. On December 30, 1955, at the Church of Christ in Kewanna, In., he married Teresa Margaret “Midge” Shultz, and she preceded him in death just under seven months ago on August 30, 2025. They lacked just four months of celebrating their seventieth anniversary.
M. Dean Sixbey, M.D. graduated from Leiters Ford High School in 1948. He went on to attend Manchester College where he studied Pre-Med. He later graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine. He practiced medicine in Denver, Indiana, for many years and had also served as the Miami County Coroner for three terms.
He was a proud United States Navy Veteran and served his country as a Corpsman during the Korean Conflict. He attended the Chili Methodist church and the William Pouchie Memorial United Church in the Cayman Islands. He was a member of the Manitou Moose and enjoyed raising Angus cattle on his Arrowhead Angus Farms property. He enjoyed reading, diving/snorkeling, bike-riding, and traveling-especially to Grand Cayman, where he and Midge spent many happy winter months enjoying the beautiful weather and island-lifestyle.
Survivors include four children, Robin (Sixbey) Skiles, Peru; Kenton D. (Jami) Sixbey, Bradenton, Florida; T. Michelle (Carey) Beachy, Sarasota, Florida; and Renee W. (Art) Low, Peru; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Patsy Evans, Kewanna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Carrie; wife, Midge; brothers, Robert Warren Sixbey and Joe Allen Sixbey; and sister, Donna Louise (Sixbey) Leavell.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, with Pastor Dave Jodry officiating. Burial will following at Chili Community Cemetery, with military honors presented by members of the US Navy and the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the funeral home.
