Mary Louise Davis

Mary Louise Davis, age 94, known to family and friends as Louise, formerly of Denver, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, at 2:20 a.m. in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she had resided for the past nine years with her two daughters.

Born on March 16, 1931, in Wabash County, Indiana, Louise was the daughter of Ray R. and Catherine Minnette (Leavell) Miller. On September 27, 1974, she married Earl Dale Davis, who preceded her in death in April 1993.

Louise graduated from Chili High School in 1949 and from the Kokomo School of Nursing in June 1971, earning her LPN certification. She worked for several years as a bookkeeper for Murphy Trucking Company before joining the Denver Medical Clinic. She later retired from Miami County Medical Center in Peru, Indiana, in June 1999 after many years of dedicated service.

A strong woman of faith, Louise was a faithful member of Olive Branch Church while living in Indiana. She was well known for her generous hospitality, often welcoming parishioners, friends, and family into her home for meals. Her homemade beef and noodles, pies, yeast rolls, and fried chicken were especially beloved. An avid gardener, she took great pride in her work—neighbors often remarked that there was never a weed in her garden. Louise and her twin sister, Louella, spent many years making lap blankets and baby blankets, which they donated to various local agencies in Miami and surrounding counties. She also delighted in caring for her ruby-throated hummingbirds each summer and dearly missed them after moving to Wyoming. In 2013, Louise had the honor of serving as Grand Marshal of the 24th Annual Denver Days Festival.

She is survived by her children, Elaine (Gene) Hart and Debra Murphy, both of Burns, Wyoming; Lyle (Tammy) Davis of Denver, Indiana; and Alan Davis of Lafayette, Indiana. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her twin sister, Louella (Miller) Teel of Ozark, Missouri; her brother, Lee (Carolyn) Miller of Peru, Indiana; several nieces and nephews, and her son Steven's widow, Lanice Foltz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; her two sons, Ray Alspach and Steven Alspach; and a grandchild, Lee McVay.

A memorial service will be held in Indiana in the summer of 2026, with the date to be announced. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Mexico, Indiana.
