James Richard “Dick” Reese, Sr., 92, Denver, passed away at 9:35 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at his son’s residence.
Born January 24, 1934, in Rochester, Indiana, he was the son of John Lloyd and Donna Cozetta (Collins) Reese. On September 4, 1955, at the Macy Methodist Church, he was to married Cora Gene Renfroe, and she survives.
Dick graduated from Macy High School in 1952. After graduation, he served two years in the United States Army, serving in Germany at the end of the Korean War. Dick was an active member of the Mexico New Life Church. He enjoyed restoring cars and tractors, finding a piece of junk and giving it new life. Dick farmed outside of Macy for many years and had also worked nineteen years at Sealed Power. He then became a rural carrier for the United States Postal Service and delivered mail for many years around Macy and Nyona Lake.
Survivors include his wife, Cora Reese, Denver; son, Jon (Cathy) Reese, Peru; daughter, Dawn (Mike) Berry, Rochester; and Linda (Tim) Strebin, Goshen; daughter-in-law, Mila Reese, Indianapolis; and their exchange-children, Raimo (Susanne) Kuitunen, Finland; and Marleen Wilson, Belgium; grandchildren, Joe (Jennifer) Reese; Bob (Sara) Reese, Jami (Marcus) Marvin, Brandon (Britt) Reese, Logan (Rachael) Reese, Sarah (Scott) Hanes, Carson (Melissa) Reese, Nigel (Tina) Berry, Nick (Devin) Berry, Niles (Megan) Berry, Amanda (Cory) Witmer, and Andrew (Megan) Strebin; thirty-five great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Baker, Mentone; and brother-in-law, Dale Fish, Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James “Jim” Reese; sister, Maxine Fish; and three brothers, Wayne, Gene, and Maynard Reese.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, with Pastor Wayne Balmer and Pastor Chad Chamness officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery, Macy, with the Miami County Military Rites Unit, with his great-grandson, Lucas Witmer playing Taps.
Visitation will be from 3-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the funeral home.
