Halsie Frances Holcomb, 92, Peru, passed away at 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru.
Born June 8, 1922, in Daviess County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Theodore and Della Miller Greenwood.
Halsie grew up on the family farm in Daviess County, Indiana, and graduated from Epsom High School in Odon, Indiana. She began her working career shortly after high school, working in Naval defense plants in the state of Washington through World War II. It was while she worked in Washington that she met her future husband, William Holcomb, and he preceded her in death in 1982. It was after her retirement from General Tire that she returned to farm life again, making family and her beloved animals a priority. In addition to her love of animals, she was a gifted musician, playing the violin, string bass, piano, and harmonica.
Recalling her life, Halsie often remembered and shared how she had lived in a most amazing period of history, reflecting on her early farming days with horses, living through the second great war, and later seeing people walk on the moon.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Jill Spin, Mexico; Christine Beecher and her husband Richard; and granddaughter, Lauren Annette Savage, Bloomington. She was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
The family will honor and celebrate Halsie’s life later this year at their family reunion. No services will be held at this time.
Burial was in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.
McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, has been entrusted with arrangements.
