George Albert Smith

Jun 12, 1945 — Jul 25, 2026

Denver, Indiana

George Albert Smith, 81, Denver, Indiana, passed away on Saturday morning, July 25, 2026, at his residence.

Born June 12, 1945, northeast of Denver, Indiana, he was the son of George Russell and Helen M. (Martindale) Smith.

George graduated in the second graduating class from North Miami High School in 1963. After graduating, he worked at the Chili Feed & Grain Elevator for a short time before going to Thrush-Amtrol in Peru, where he retired from in 2010.

George was a very quiet man, living most of his life on the family farm where he passed away in the same home in which he was born. When George was sixteen, he moved back to the farm to live with his brother’s family. This formed a special relationship between “Uncle George” and his nephew and two nieces, who were more like siblings, and they were the family he farmed with and who took care of him in his later years.

He was an avid IU basketball fan, George enjoyed spending time with his nephews and great-nephews and anyone else who stopped by the house to watch a game with him. Although he didn’t go out for many events, he always took great interest in the family’s achievements so he could celebrate their accomplishments and victories with them.

Survivors include a sister, Ann (Phil) Dailey, Huntington; brother, Ralph W. Stout, Lagro; special nephew and nieces Jeffery G. (Diana) Smith, Denver; Merry (John) Gaerte, Macy; and Jeann (Stan) Hudson, Roann; along with many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Annell Smith, Columbia City.

George was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Omer G. (Patty) Smith; and Carl E. Smith.

Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver.
