David Allen Schakel

David Allen Schakel, 25, Rochester, passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, Michigan.

David was born on May 12, 1995, in Rochester, Indiana.  He graduated from Caston High School in 2013. In his younger years, he enjoyed 4-wheelers, fishing, and hunting. He loved music, playing video games, and working as a farmhand on his aunt and uncle's farm.

Survivors include his mother, Virginia Schakel, (companion, Bill Roush), Rochester; father, Eric Bowen, Fulton; grandparents, Sharon Grimes, Warsaw; Ed Schakel, South Bend; and Brenda Reffitt, Rochester; sister, Tabatha Bowen, Fulton; aunts, Stephanie (Chuck) Ault, Warsaw; and Ellen (Paul) Slisher, Rochester; uncles, Gene Schakel; Beech Grove; several great aunts and uncles; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harold W. Reffitt; uncle, Marcus Reffitt, and cousin, Olivia Prenatt.

A private family service will be held with Hector Fernandez officiating.
