Evelyn Beatrice Wray, 101, Peru, Indiana, passed away on December 18, 2023, in her
home surrounded by loving family.
Born April 21, 1922 at Macy, Indiana, she was the daughter of William Henry and Myrtle
Belle (Walters) Dickerhoff.
On November 16, 1941, in Mexico, Indiana, she married Hugh Frederick Wray, and he preceded in her in death on January 19, 2001.
Evelyn grew up on a farm near Chili in Northern Miami County. As a young girl, her job was
stirring the milk to cool it in the springhouse, but she was often found with a chick or some
other baby animal. She grew to be a wonderful homemaker, painter, egg artist, and
seamstress at home and for a drapery shop. She was a member of the Mexico Church of
the Brethren including Women’s Fellowship. She was exceptionally talented at storytelling
and making others feel welcomed and loved. She supported family in all ways, even to
being willing to bait her own hook with her avid fisherman husband, as long he wanted to do
without her rolling out pie dough the next morning. Yes, he always chose pie!
Survivors include her daughter Sondra Lee (Richard) Bowman, Logansport; son Gary Lynn
(Chris) Wray, Peru, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Scott (Brenda) Bowman, Steven (Lorie)
