I am a bit late. Yesterday I had my scrapbook out. I pulled out a newspaper clipping of John from the time I was in the IUK singers with him. I still remember seeing him sitting in class and talking to him. He kind of stuck out as he was much older than the rest of us. I believe he was taking college classes other than singing? I wish I could have met up with him again later in life.

I have many memories of John. His smile, a pat on the shoulder, a joke to make you laugh. He was a hard worker and always had time to stop and visit. Rest In Peace JOhn.

my thoughts are with the family and friends of a truly kind man who touched many lives in his 93 years. He brought joy to those he met and had an infectious smile and a fun twinkle in his blue eyes. It saddened me to hear the news. As Ever~ Linda B.

I really did not know John, but would hear him play and sing from time to time at the Akron Community Center when they had the monthly Friday night open music/sing .
It was delightful to listen to the songs he sang, especially about Kicking his Dog, as well as others I had never heard. What a bright light he was. I pray God's comfort and peace for you.

Dear family, Ellen and friends of my sweet friend John. I am very sad to hear this news. I met John at the Peru truck stop back in the 80's when I was acting Postmaster in Culver. That was my breakfast stop and I can still remember how his face would light up in a huge smile when I came in. He delighted in giving me a hard time. Wonderful way to start my day.
My husband, Arthur Burge, was a singer and played guitar with a lot of the same pickers as John. Art and I loved to hear John sing and play music. They got together many times.
John's passing will leave a huge hole for those of us that knew and loved him. My thoughts and prayers to all of you. I'm sorry I will not be home for his services. However, he knows I'm there in heart. Love to all of you. Hugs to sweet Ellen.

What a privilege it has been to have enjoyed being the niece of John Swantner. He reared a wonderful family. Love you all, cousins. May you find comfort and strength in the beautiful memories and the prayerful support of those who care deeply about you.

Uncle John now rests in peace, singing in the heavenly choir, and playing that guitar into eternity!
