Gertrude G. Walker

Gertrude G. Walker, 86, Chili, passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru.

Born August 4, 1931, in Disko, Indiana, she was the daughter of Charles and Esther Gearhart.  She was married to Louis “Gene” Walker in 1951, and he preceded her in death on October 21, 1997.

She was a graduate of Akron High School, Akron. She was a member of the Home Ec Club and was a longtime and active member of the Chili Baptist Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid.  She worked in the dietary department of Mexico Grade School and Dukes Memorial Hospital for several years. She was a farmwife, raising four children on the family land northeast of Chili and enjoyed gardening, sewing, making quilts, and cooking. 

Survivors include three children, Larry (Julie) Walker, Denver; Roger (Rena) Walker, Peru; and Harvey Walker, Denver; one sister-in-law, Betty Gearhart, Akron, seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, David A. and Danny Walker; two sisters, Freida Beigh and Glendora Hamilton, and three brothers, Gerald, Lee, and Robert Gearhart.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the Chili Baptist Church, Chili, Indiana.  Burial will follow in Chili Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-5:00 p.m. on Saturday at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, and one hour prior to the service on Sunday, at the church.
