Major Robert D. Benedict, USAF (Ret.), age 97, Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at University Heights Health and Living Center. 

Robert was born on September 14, 1919 in Denver, IN, the son of  Edward E. Benedict and Flora E. (Delp) Benedict. He was a graduate of Jefferson Township High School and University of Omaha. In May of 1940, Robert joined the United States Air Force serving his country in WWII. In March of 1949, he married Catherine L. (Walacavage) Benedict, who preceded him in death in June 2012. He retired from the USAF as a pilot with over 24 years of service. 

Survivors include one son, Dr. Bryan R. Benedict (Dr. Cynthia C. Benedict) Indianapolis; two grandsons, Brandon R. Benedict and Derek R. Benedict, both of Indianapolis; and one sister, Rachel McGuire, Denver, IN. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, with Pastor Timothy Earle officiating.  Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Denver, Indiana, with military honors being presented by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
