Melanie Jane Townsend Peoples, 49, Macy, Indiana, passed away on April 5, 2016, while traveling in China.

Born October 15, 1966, in Winnsboro, Louisiana, she was daughter of Floyd Townsend, Jr. and Johnnie Mae Herrington Townsend.  She was married to Darral Gene Peoples, and he preceded her in death on February 4, 2016.

After obtaining her college degree, she taught for several years at both Ogden and Crowville High Schools in Louisiana.  She was currently in her eighteenth year at Kokomo High School, where she taught English.

She is survived by three children, Sarah E. Gibson and husband Dan, Kokomo; Darral G. Peoples, Jr., Macy; and Kurt H. Peoples, Macy; stepdaughter, Mika J. Peoples, Louisiana; grandchildren, Ava Peoples and Benjamin Gibson, Kokomo; and sister, Dena Nabavi, Georgia.

Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana.  There will be no public funeral service.
