Joseph Allen Bates, 43, Peru, passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014 at his residence. 

Born October 29, 1970 in Peru, Indiana, he was the son of Patrick James Bates, Sr. and Barbara Sue Kern Bates.  He was married to the former Bonnie Sue McIntosh, and she survives.

Joseph worked for the past ten years for the Peru City Street Department.  He enjoyed Nascar racing, fishing, cheering for the San Francisco 49ers, and spending time with his friends and family.  He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Beech Grove. 

Survivors include his loving wife of twenty-seven years, Bonnie Bates, rural Peru; his three children, Nicole Ashley McIntosh, Keith Allen Bates, and Joseph Anthony Bates, all of Peru; mother, Barbara Crim, Indianapolis; five siblings, Michal Lee Bates, Peru; and Patrick Bates, Jr., Teresa Marie Scott, Andrea Lynn Burge, and Elizabeth Ann Yanez, all of Indianapolis, and mother-in-law, Deloris Murphy, Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick James Bates, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at McClain Funeral Home with Deacon Truman Stevens officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday.
