James H. Murphy, 89, Peru, passed away at 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at his residence.  
 
Born on October 26, 1927, in Miami County, Indiana, he was the son of Robert E. and Marjorie E. Swearingen Murphy.  He was married to Phyllis J. Cain on August 5, 1950, in Marion, Indiana, and she preceded in death on January 27, 2002.
 
Survivors include an only daughter, Reena L. Murphy, Peru.
 
He was preceded in death by two sons, James Allen Murphy and Sean Patrick Murphy and one brother, Richard E. Murphy.
 
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2016, at Mexico First Brethren Church, with Pastor Ron Laudenschlager officiating.  A fellowship meal for family and friends will follow the service in the church basement.
 
Private burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.
