Elmer Joseph Hagan

Elmer Joseph Hagan, 87, Denver, passed away on Monday morning, September 15, 2014 at his home.

 

A lifelong resident of Miami County, Elmer was born on February 13, 1927 in Peru, the son of David M. and Dora V. Bauer Hagan.  On February 4, 1951, he was married to Patricia L. “Pat” Daine, and she preceded him in death on September 17, 1982.  He was then married on February 23, 1990 to the former Becky Wilson, and she survives.

 

Elmer was an active member of his community, owning and operating Hagan’s Bestmart in Denver for many years where he and his family proudly served the North Miami Community.  He was a lifelong and active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Peru, where he attended elementary school and was a member of the local Knights of Columbus.  Throughout the years, Elmer was very active with the Peru Moose Lodge, Number 249 serving as Governor five different times and achieving his Fellowship Degree and Pilgrim Degree.  Elmer especially enjoyed watching the Cubs play baseball and Notre Dame football, but above all, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

 

Elmer was a US Army Veteran having served during WWII.

 

Along with his wife, he is survived by four sons, Mike Hagan and wife Carol, Fishers; Steve Hagan and wife Sharon, Denver; Jeff Hagan and wife Patty, Peru; and Todd Hagan and wife Debi, Denver; two stepdaughters, Dawn MyKrantz and husband Doug; and Allison Platt-Sloane and husband Rusty, Lafayette; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Kenneth Hagan; and three sisters, Doris Richards, LaVerne Bunnell, and Elizabeth Spencer.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Peru, with Fr. Adam Mauman officiating.  Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Denver with military rites provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.

 

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Denver Baptist Church Fellowship Hall where a Moose Service will be held at 6:45 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.

 

Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at St. Charles in Peru.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Relay for Life or Helping Hands.  The online guestbook can be signed at www.mcclainfuneralhome.com.

 

Hagan’s Bestmart will be closed this Friday and Saturday due to the visitation and funeral.  They will reopen on Monday, September 22, 2014.
